The rule, quoted

The Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists among persons who do not require a visa: "Holders of valid double or multiple entry Schengen visa or Bulgarian, Croatian and Romanian national visa, as well as residence permits issued by Schengen Member States or by Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania, are not required to hold a short-stay visa to enter the Republic of Cyprus for a time period that does not exceed 90 days in any 180 day period. This provision doesn't apply to Citizens of Turkey and Azerbaijan who have to follow the regular visa issuance procedure." The Republic of Cyprus has adopted Decision No 565/2014/EU, which allows unilateral recognition of such documents as equivalent to national visas.

What it means for you

  • A single-entry Schengen visa does not qualify; double or multiple entry does.
  • Cyprus is not in Schengen: passports are stamped manually there and days in Cyprus do not count toward your Schengen 90-in-180. Leaving Schengen for Cyprus on a double-entry visa uses one of the two entries when you return.
  • Indian nationals otherwise need a Cypriot national visa.
