The rule, quoted
Technical Notice 558/2026, published by HM Government of Gibraltar on 15 July 2026 as a reminder concerning visa arrangements following the treaty arrangements published on 26 February 2026, states: "Gibraltar will recognise, as valid for entry into Gibraltar, Schengen short-stay visas issued by any of the Schengen States."
What it means for you
- A Schengen short-stay (type C) visa is recognised for entry into Gibraltar from 15 July 2026 under this notice; the notice we read does not spell out a separate maximum stay in its text, so treat the Schengen short-stay logic (90 days in any 180) as the framework and confirm the exact conditions with the Gibraltar Borders and Coastguard Agency.
- Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory outside Schengen; crossing from Spain into Gibraltar has been an external border, so a single-entry Schengen visa is spent on leaving Spain unless the new arrangements say otherwise; check the Agency's page.
- Indian nationals previously needed a Gibraltar visa; this notice changed the position for Schengen visa holders.

This is a 2026 change. Read the notice and the Borders and Coastguard Agency visa page in full before booking, and expect further notices as the treaty arrangements bed in.
