The rule, quoted

The Government of Montenegro's visa page states: "Holders of valid foreign travel documents with a valid Schengen visa ... may enter, transit through and stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days, and no longer than until the expiry of the visa, if the validity of the visa is less than 30 days." The same page extends the rule to holders of valid visas of the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Bulgaria, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland.

What it means for you

  • Any valid Schengen visa qualifies on the wording; there is no multiple-entry or prior-use condition stated.
  • Maximum stay is 30 days per the rule, and never beyond the Schengen visa's own expiry.
  • Montenegro is not in the Schengen area: days there do not count toward your 90-in-180, but leaving Schengen on a single-entry visa ends that visa's usefulness.
  • Indian nationals otherwise need a Montenegrin visa.
