Uniform visa (type C)

Last verified 2026-08-17

Article 2(3) of the Visa Code defines a uniform visa as "a visa valid for the entire territory of the Member States". It is what a tourist, business or family-visit applicant from India receives: a type C sticker allowing "an intended stay on the territory of the Member States not exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period" (Article 2(2)(a)). It may be single, double or multiple entry (Article 24(1)) and its validity may not exceed five years. Everything counted on this site under "applied", "issued" and "refused" concerns uniform visas; national long-stay (type D) visas are a separate, national matter and are not in the European Commission's consulate statistics.
